The Full Story of Quilt Camp at Cedar Lakes

For over 40 years, Quiltmakers have gathered each October to enjoy four days of quilting classes and friendship in the lovely highlands of West Virginia at Quilt Camp. We take a respite from our daily chores at the beautiful Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, WV. Join us!!

In 1983, Zapora Hughes started her Educational Seminar in Quiltmaking with a few close friends that wanted to learn more and spend time practicing their art. She nurtured and grew that event, inviting teachers to introduce new techniques and trending quilt practices to over 200 students each fall. All of this without the aid of the internet and email!

Known through the years as simply 'Ripley' or 'Quilt Camp', the event is a part of the annual schedule at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, West Virginia. Cedar Lakes Conference Center was originally owned and operated by the West Virginia educational administration as a band camp. This makes the campus perfect for large groups like ours, with short walks between classroom buildings, a dining hall, and multiple housing options to fill every budget and need.

Quilt Camp has evolved, but our goals are the same. We strive to provide amazing teachers, who teach invaluable skills to campers who have become friends, all for the love of quiltmaking. We cherish seeing old friends, and love to see and meet new!

Our week long events features class or sewing time, meal time, assemblies with show and tell, prizes, challenges, and fun for all! Most of all, we offer lifelong friendships and belonging with like-minded quilt enthusiasts!
